Jail to Job

The project in brief

Prison is often seen as a place on hold. But it is also a place of life — and it is there that what comes next can begin to take shape.

Jail to Job accompanies people serving criminal sentences towards employment, because a job is not only an income: it is a way to imagine oneself anew, to feel recognised as a person before being recognised as a worker. But work alone is not enough. It takes continuity, relationships, presence — before, during and after. That is why the project builds a stable bridge between the prison system, local services and the productive sector, and works towards a cultural shift too: turning the way we look at prison into a shared responsibility.

Our contribution

Support for the three-year Jail to Job project, promoted by the social cooperative Rigenerazioni Onlus of Palermo in collaboration with the cooperatives L'Arcolaio of Syracuse and Lazzarelle of Naples.

Support for socio-occupational inclusion pathways for 540 people serving criminal sentences, with the goal of reaching 180 employment contracts, through specialised active labour-market services and personalised vocational guidance.

Contribution to dissemination and advocacy actions at regional and national level, in a network with six penitentiary institutions and three external criminal enforcement services in Sicily and Campania, to promote processes of community justice.
